Over the hill

Recently i seem to be finding plenty of time to run. not sure why that is. :)

New years day Chris A and i ran 8 miles of the Pennine way, out and back from Blackstone Edge and i continued on for a further 5 miles, i felt that 8 miles was to short to maintain my current fitness, especially at the pace we ran, which was a little slow.

I try not to run every day as my body needs time to recover, i suppose this process gets slower as you get older. However i ran 10 miles yesterday, i have a cracking route over Rough hill and past Gorpley reservoir, passing by Ramsden Clough reservoir on the way back. The ascent up through the old Quarry on to Rough hill is a good warm up and i always struggle, constantly telling myself i can run it all, i know this is one of the ways i measure my fitness, if i stop or walk any of this ascent i know my fitness is very poor.

Average pace for the complete run was 10.5 miles per hour, now i know this is not great but recent runs have been way off this pace so i am very pleased. Running feels good at the moment and i know this is because last year i was injured for a long time and this gave my body time to recover from the 295 miles run i did over a week in April 2015.

This year there will be no week long adventure with silly distances involved, certainly not before August anyway. Although i do like the look of the Offa's Dyke trail, this is 177 miles and follows the English Welsh border. Perhaps one for later in the year.

This year i would like to have a go at the Joss Naylor challenge, this is a tough one and i will need to train very hard if i'm going to complete it. If that happens and i feel good about my fitness i will push the training on and maybe attempt the Charlie Ramsey round again.

Of course i need to get fit enough while staying injury free and i know the secret to this is Yoga, which means i need to start my Yoga practice again. This is probably the final step, its been a while since i attended Yoga classes and i am looking forward to starting again next week.

Enough dreaming about long runs and time to do a couple of hours work, although it would be rude not to have an hour on the bike first, just to get the blood flowing.
